President Barack Obama will speak at the Ohio State University student athletic center near Ohio Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

The 4:30 p.m. event at the Recreation and Physical Activity Center on W. 17th Avenue is free and open to the public. The White House says tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Only one per person can be obtained, and they are not supposed to be redistributed or sold.

Tickets will be available at the OSU Student Union, 1739 N. High St., beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Doors to the main entrance of the rec center will open at 2:15 p.m. Thursday for the event.

For security reasons, the White House says, visitors may not take bags and should limit personal items. No signs or banners are permitted. All those attending will go through airportlike security.

The speech is to address ways to conserve energy while developing alternative renewable fuels, a White House official said. The speech and a possible tour of an OSU facility represents the final stop on a two-day trip that takes the president to New Mexico, Nevada and Oklahoma.

As with all presidential visits, this one could snarl traffic between OSU and Rickenbacker Airport before and after the event, which could wrap up around 5:30 p.m.

Because of construction and the boys state high-school basketball tournament at the Schottenstein Center, John Herrick Drive between Cannon Drive and Neil Avenue will be closed from 1 to 5 p.m. for the presidential visit.
Free parking will be available at the Union South Garage, Tuttle Park Place, Lane Avenue Garage and Ohio Stadium surface lots.

Parking for those with disabilities will be available in the stadium lots and in Tuttle Park Place.
Because of construction at the intersection of Woody Hayes Drive and Tuttle Park Place, access to the Tuttle garage will be only from the east or west via Woodruff Avenue or Woody Hayes Drive.
