Junn Series #2 – Telat!

You Guys!
Akhirnya bagian kedua selesai ditulis. [Apa Hebatnya?]
Hehe...
Nah, yang udah nunggu-nunggu kelanjutan bagian pertama silahkan berbahagia!
[Ngarep. Dilempar pake tomat...]
Hehe... selamat membaca aja deh...

Ringkasan Cerita Sebelumnya:

-----Junn Series #2 – Telat!-----

    Suara gerbang digeser.
“Cepat Junn, gerbangnya mau ditutup!” ujar Riri dengan raut wajah cemas. Ia mencoba melangkah lebih cepat walaupun sedang dipapah.
“Udah, jangan dipikirin. Kaki kamu lebih penting, Ri!”
Riri terdiam. Junn ada benarnya. Lututnya terasa berdenyut-denyut, perih sekali. “Kalau gitu kamu masuk duluan deh! Nanti Aku nyusul.”
Junn terbelalak, “Dan kamu dihukum sendirian karena terlambat? Sori deh, Aku nggak sejahat itu, Ri!” Ujarnya tegas. “Kita akan masuk bersama. Dan jangan bilang apa-apa lagi!”

Riri kembali terdiam.

“Bagus, bagus. Sudah terlambat, masih berani menantang?”
Senior yang berambut cepak menyeringai, “Heh, anak baru! Sudah salah masih belagu! Cepat ke sini!”
“Kenapa kau terlambat, hah!?

WOW. Seorang ketua OSIS membela murid baru! Wahhh…! Dalam hatinya ia berteriak salut. Tapi dia tetap memperlihatkan wajah seriusnya, agar senior berambut cepak itu tak tahu betapa senangnya ia.

“Tapi, Zhaf! Peraturan tetap peraturan!” Dia masih belum puas.

Junn membatin.

Pagi semakin cerah. Gumpalan putih di birunya langit berarak sangat pelan, membiarkan dirinya dipanggang matahari. Udara mulai terasa hangat, sehangat perasaan Junn saat memasuki barisan upacara.

How do I to begin a log stack process?

two logs stacked in  corner

6 x 8 D shape white pine from Original Log Cabin shipped in random lengths and cut to size per print on job site . Home owner  Frank Merron laid first log, as shown in here in our  video. the process is time consuming and noisy!

1.CHALKING  The first step is rather easy yet, is a  very important step. A  chalk line  is snapped out 4 inches all around the  deck from outside of the concrete foundation. This is done  to square up  the deck which  needs to prefectly square.  For   if its off at all,  it will  show up at the roof. A 1/4 of inch off at this level can show up at the roof as much as an entire inch or more. Shinglers, homeowner and myself all    would not be happy.
Why drag the chalk line in 4 inches?
By dragging it in  4 inches , since  the logs are really 5 1/2 from flat inside to fat of the round, the log that sist on the deck 4 inches  puts the fat of the round hanging  over 1 1/2  inches over your sub-floor . This is what we want. The   reason for this is that when half log siding goes up,which is  an 1 1/2 inches thick they were both match, i.e.  the fat of the round to the half log siding.
2.Mark out electric on the sub floor with a red crayon so we know where to drill out the electric out we get to this process and importantly  so we don't put any lags  in this location which we do not want when installing log electric  outlets. I work closely with the electrician on my log homes, as it is common that an electrician has not had experience with running electric threw logs.

We also mark out center of doors and windows. so we know where to stop the logs

3.Apply sealant  of either caulk or  log tape which  the log is placed on. Then we    follow straight down the chauk line corner to corner to get a real straight first log. Much care is taken in this, once again to ensure an accurate  and plum beginning.

zinc Lag Screw
Oly Scews
4.FASTEN  the logs . Builders or log home companies  use either Oly screws or Lags. On this house we used Lags. I prefer to use olys,  however  for speed.Yet lag screws are in many ways more effective for example when and  if you run into a twisted,  warped, or bowed log. Using a  lag I can often fix or  take out the problem with a lag screw.
It is important that Lags should be at least 3 inches longer than the log so they go into the next log as shown above. A special  electric lag gun is used and the oly requires a very strong drill, a common drill will quickly burn out.
Lag gun on large beam

5.Window and door allowances  after running 2 full logs we had to compensate for window openings on our last log home. On Franks home, there was a window shipping delay, even through window openings are on the print, you need the actual window to measure. Print openings are rough  size and not true size.
Allowances have to be made for the  2 x material and compensation for window buck  roof openings, such as adding at least 3 inches to the  opening. Since actual measurements were unattainable we simply extended the full  log  threw all window and door openings and then chain sawed them out later once the windows arrived and we could get our measurement.

Example of  how we over hung the logs so later we could come back,  cut  the logs out to  the exact size
of the window and door openings
Pre cut logs  verses  random log home packages
Precut system you have to sort to find your logs this is very time consuming. They often are not shipped in any meaningful manner.  With pre cut you do not have to read the print, go find a log and cut it to size however  I have found that  what you are not spending in cutting time you do  spend in sorting.

A real disadvantage to a precut log  system is  when  the foundation is slightly off, which happens far too often. I suggest that homeowners and general contractors  use extreme care in selecting  their  concrete man. Remember that  this is where it all begins, if this is done poorly or carelessly it will show up in many aspects of the building process. When this happens, we are in an  unfortunate position indeed! With a pre cut system logs will hang over if the foundation  is poured too large in spots, the  logs will  stick out past your sub floor. And obviously  if  it is too small, the logs hang over. So it follows that it is  very important that the foundation with a pre cut system is as close to prefect  as possible.

Random length package, I can accommodate and make changes to compensate for an  inaccurate foundation.  In addition, it is easy to make last minute changes  for the homeowner, such as moving  a window, changing  interior walls, as long as it is not a structural change , then I can do it. I can not when it is a precut system. Also if there are extra logs, which there generally is,  you might even be able to  run an extra course. Simply put with precut, your options are limited.

If a log is damaged in shipping, which does happen, with random logs I find one to replace it,  cut off the damaged part and reuse it somewhere else. It is really two  different mind sets concerning these tow options. Neither is better really than the other, but I find that I prefer them  not to be precut. One of my talents, and something I really enjoy , is conserving l  and finding additional uses for excess material
How many logs  are needed to do a log stack?
It depends on the type of log you are using. Standard height  with a 6 x 8 is 13 courses, which gives  you a 8 foot log stack hieght. When a 6 x 12 it is about 9 courses for the same height. T hey sack faster as they are about  5  less courses, but remember a bigger log is a  heavier log and more to lift.

Jeremy Sinur and homeowner Frank Merron discussing the 8 logs that were stacked for a window opening, we tend to work from corners, making them plum and level to insure a square home.

Interview with Björk in Svenska Dagbladet 27. August 2010

Björk interviewed by SvD Journalist Kristin Lundell
Björk is in Stockholm to receive the Polar Prize.
Published in Svenska Dagbladet 27. August 2010
Version in Swedish
You usually decline most awards you are offered - did you consider declining the Polar Prize as well?
My manager said this one was too much of an honor to turn down and that humbled me. I didnt really know it existed before, then I looked at the list of the people that got them before me and I have to admit it tickled my vanity... made me very proud ! I am kinda terrified of award shows though, I'm really bad at doing small talk with strangers. I thought those skills would develop as I got older but no luck.
What is your relationship with Abba?
Abba was one of the very few bands everyone in The Sugarcubes liked. We used to listen to them before we got on stage. Abba were massive in Iceland – bigger than The Beatles.
You have said that you are terrified of repeating yourself. Why is that?
Not sure. Boredom? Or maybe a low attention span.
But isn’t it stressfull to always have your head in the future?
Hmmmmm.... not sure. It may be it's just greed that drives me. A wish to reinvent the wheel? Or it's just about curiousity. Yeah, that sounds healthier. Let's say that; it is curiousity.
But do you always manage to realize the ideas that you have in your mind? Sometimes the contemporary world doesn't always manage to keep up to date with the futuristic brain.
No it is hard sometimes but part of the challenge is communicating with the real world – so that your work does not become an isolated utopia. If you get it right, it can both be relevant and forward looking. Unfortunately it's a challenge that is not always met in all areas.
What is it that you’re so eager to explore? The surrounding world or yourself?
Bit of both probably. I just need to feel that rawness in order to feel alive. I get claustrophobic in stagnation.
You have said it is important for you to create a positive energy with your music and creations. How come?
For me, I feel if there is a negative outcome – you didn't manage to complete the thing . You stopped half way through. Don't get me wrong, I adore dark stuff though – it is the fuel that gets you through to the end. But being only nihilistic on it's own always feels a bit teenage to me. I need more colors. I don't know if perhaps it has something to do with responsibility, some simple psychology. I have 6 younger siblings and at the end of the day, you have to get them all home in one piece. I feel if you aim for hope you get the whole scale of emotion on your way: despair, humor, sorrow, failure, optimism. If you are convinced from the start it aint gonna work out you get fewer colors. It will be less fun.
You are one of few artists who is very good at speaking about your music and relating to it in a theoretical sense. Is it important for you that your mind and emotions work together?
Thanks for the compliment! Usually I talk about my music when it is all done and wrapped up. Then it becomes an interesting process of trying to work out what actually it was all about. To be honest, it is a lot of guesswork. I drink a lot of cappucinos and then just jump into an interview and try to get through it. I don't talk about projects before I finish them – it would ruin it all. It probably comes across like I am aware of my mind while I'm making stuff. That's not the case. But time's funny like that. Like how you can read diaries years after you wrote them and you thought you were going through something endlessly complicated and later it looks so simple and obvious.
Twenty years ago you moved to London and since ten years you live in New York. Which sounds of the city do you enjoy?
It changes over time but right now I am really into wind and different angles of space between buildings: alleyways, crossroads where 3 streets meet and streets with or without hills.
Your music is very energetic. Where do you find your own energy?
From the tundra in Iceland, friends, space, music, silence, books, ocean, movies and swimming.
What do you do an ordinary day if you are Björk?
It really varies. I'm not too keen on rigid schedules. I feel too easily trapped. But the consistancies would be hanging out with my children and family. I also try to spend few hours a day outdoors. That always seems to level things nicely.
During the last couple of years, you’ve taken an active part in different environmental issues. Do you feel a responsibility to speak up?
I do actually. If I like it or not, there comes a pedestal with my job. It creates a peculiar energy, but since I have lived with the not-so-nice-side of fame I might as well use the good side for things I care about . We live in the 21st century and I feel there is an opportunity to initiate a creative relationship between technology and nature if we just want it. It wont happen by itself so we cant afford to not be bothered.
What does Iceland mean to your music? Just the fact that you had a tv-free month every summer must have done good for your creativity.
My parents didnt have a tv until I was about 10 and then it was only for 3 hours in the evenings. Every thursday and all july it was off. I feel the fact that there is so much space in iceland, it made at least my generation feel that each one of us was important . I also suspect the fact that we were a colony for 600 years, and have only been independence 66 years, made my generation the first one brought up by an independent nation. We had a lot to prove and a lot of history to write. But these are just my homemade theories, I'm sure if you ask someone else you'll get another answer alltogether.
Do you know where your next album will take you?
Yes, but I cannot talk about it. It would jinx it all. I'll talk about it, or at least give it a go, when the music is all wrapped up and ready to head out into the world.

Classic Icelandic Albums (CIA) # 13: "Ekki enn"/"EhgjI En:" by Purrkur Pillnikk

CIA

# 13

"Ekki Enn" or "EhgjI En:" (1981)

Purrkur Pillnikk

The punkrock band Purrkur Pillnikk released this album on 29. October 1981 on the Icelandic Gramm Label (Gramm 3). P.P. existed for about 18 months (1981-1982), but they were very active & released 2 LPs, 2 EPs & 1 live album.

In March 1981 the band was formed to play a gig with other school bands in the basement of their school, a gymnasium called MH (Menntaskólinn við Hamrahlíð).

Purrkur
refers to the latin word for pig Porcus; Pillnikk is a reference to the chess grandmaster Herman Pilnik from Argentina (German roots). First idea was to call the band Purrkur Pillnikk og Friðlarnir. But Friðlarnir was to similar with Fræbbblarnir, another legendary punk band.

Band members were vocalist Einar Örn Benediktsson (EÖB), Ásgeir R. Bragason on drums (previous he played bass), Bragi Ólafsson on bass & Friðrik Erlingsson on guitar.

Singer Einar Örn was the manager of the punk band Utangarðsmenn ("The Outsiders") @ that time. Back in 1977 when he was in England, he came in contact with the rise of punk music, e.g. The Clash & The Stranglers.

Because Einar Örn was managing Utangarðsmenn, P.P. was able to play some gigs @ Hotel Borg as supporting act of Utangarðsmenn. In the winter of 1981-82 they performed twice a week. The band played 63 gigs in the period 1981-82. In 1981 they supported Mark E. Smith's band The Fall on their Icelandic tour. In 1982 they toured in Great Britain with The Fall.

During the summer of 1981 EÖB toured with Utangarðsmenn in Scandinavia. When Einar came back, Purrkur Pillnikk could go to Sheffield in August 2001. They practised a lot & went to record the LP @ London.

The album was recorded in 50 hours @ Southern Studios (of Crass Records fame) @ London with the help of Simaen Skolfield.

LP "EhgjI En:" contains 17 songs.

Einar Örn's robust haranguing, a kind of Arctic Circle version of Mark E. Smith, is underscored with pithy, scrappy guitar riffs that rarely outstay their Pink Flag-style welcome, although the songs do blur together after awhile, according to Trouser Press.

All the info on the cover & the Icelandic text sheet is in phonetic transcription. "Ekki enn" means Not yet, it is also a song on the album.

About 1.500-1.700 copies were sold in Iceland.

For the Cover Art, a photograph by Arie Lieberman was (ab)used.

The Weird Girls Project goes Mexico Par Avion

The Weird Girls Project
Concept, Artistic Director and Producer: Kitty Von-Sometime
Technical Director, Director of Photography, Editing and Post Production: Arnar Valdimarsson
Official Photographers: Ben Mathis / James Wyld
Theme song: "Par Avion" by FM Belfast
Kitty, a staff member at CCP Games, went on the employee run Fun Division company holiday to Puerta Vallarta, Mexico in April and decided that it was a prime opportunity to produce a piece whilst there, utilising the growing number of female staff in the company. 8 women who work at CCP had taken part in previous episodes of the Project and Kitty opened this to members of staff from the Shanghai and Atlanta office as well - building to 25 women who took part.
This Special took place under the usual constraints of the project: The women involved did not know what costumes or concept they would be taking part in. But unlike the standard Episodes the crew also had no preparation and improvisation was forefront. The other difference is that the filming took place in under 4 hours compared to 14+ hours on a standard Weird Girls Episode.

cupcakes are the cure

How adorable is my new cupcake necklace? , well it is pretty cute isn't it , you know I love cupcakes, real , faux , whatever.
Well I found these beautiful handmade glass cupcake beads on Etsy recently while looking for charms . CL Beads is the name of the shop the prices are also fabulous. We orderd them and got them a week later after Sophie checked the mail everyday for their arrival, she was so excited to get them in her little hands, see they were for her .

Every end of summer we prepare to go back to school and with Sophie having her peanut allergy she needs to wear a medic alert bracelet , which has been a challenge , so I figured we could dress it up to take away from the look of the medic alert bracelet , charms , well of course we both loved the cupcake charms, once I saw them I knew they would be perfect.

Cupcakes save the day again ...

Despising the Word of the Lord

Despising the Word of the Lord
Jer 36:23 And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.

Jehudi's mistreatment of the Word of God. (He did this on behalf of King Jehoiakim)

1. He only read 3 or 4 leaves and had had enough.
The Word of God must be taken, and understood as a whole. Taking a portion out of context does more harm than good. There is no way the king could have understood how jealous God was over his people by having only 4 pages read to him.

2. He cut it with a penknife, no doubt removing the parts he didn't like.
Religious people included, many gladly accept the milk and honey of the Word but reject the dire warnings concerning sin and idolatry.

3. He burned it in the fire, such was his rage and anger.
Our generation just misplaces the Bible, for a year or 10. “Out of sight, out of mind.”

4. He went after the messenger.
If you don't like the message, give the preacher what for. This is nothing new, is it?

As to how people went after the messenger, see 38:6, Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sunk in the mire.

Oh, Lord, that people's eyes would be opened that they may see your Word as life and truth!

More fun with owls

I had quite an assembly line happening last night , making owl after owl , this one is my favorite, my sleepy owl , so cute .
